Friday evening is the Epiphany, when we remember the Wise Ones who were guided by a star to worship the infant Jesus. Because the God who came to us in Jesus is for all people!
Since the Middle Ages Christians have prayed for God’s blessing on our homes on the Epiphany. We chalk the main entrance of our home with the initials of the three Wise Ones and the numerals of the new year. These initials, C + M + B (for Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar) also stand for the Latin phrase Christus mansionem bendicat, “May Christ bless this house.”
Join us Friday evening, January 6th at 6:30 online via Zoom (link below) for a service of Evening Prayer with Blessing of Our Homes. Mother Meredith and her family will bless the doorway of St. James’ rectory, chalking their door, and we’ll share a blessing format you can use to bless your own home during or right after the service.
