Burial Service: Philip S. Lamonica

March 18 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Philip “Phil” Salvatore LaMonica, 66, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on March 9, 2025, in Oneonta, NY. He was born on April 1, 1958, in Poughkeepsie, NY, to the late Philip LaMonica and Gertrude Kallenback. A proud veteran of the U.S. National Guard, Phil lived a life of dedication—to his family, his community, and his country.

Phil was a loving and devoted father to his four children: Joseph LaMonica, Tina LaMonica, Jessica Bahl (Tyler), and Tami-Le Vergari (David). His greatest joy in life was being a grandfather, and he is survived by his cherished grandchildren and his first great-grandchild, who brought him immense happiness.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lucy LaMonica, with whom he is now reunited, along with his sister, Carol Ann LaMonica.

Phil lived by the simple but profound principle: “It’s nice to be nice.” Known for his kindness, lighthearted spirit, and strong work ethic, he was the kind of friend everyone wished to have. There wasn’t much Phil couldn’t fix—literally and figuratively—and if something was broken, he always had a solution, usually involving duct tape and a little ingenuity. Whether it was a household project, a car that needed tinkering, or simply lending an ear to a friend, Phil had a way of making things right.

For over 30 years, he was a dedicated employee of the Town of Hyde Park Highway Department, where he took pride in his work and the friendships he built. Weekends often found him helping others, tackling projects around the house, or enjoying his favorite sports. He was a proud and loyal fan of the New York Yankees, Boston Celtics, and Miami Dolphins, never missing a game.

Above all, Phil’s greatest legacy is the love, generosity, and unwavering support he gave to those around him. His warmth and laughter will be deeply missed, but the impact he made on the lives of his family and friends will never fade.

Calling hours will be held at Burnett & White Funeral Homes in Rhinebeck on Monday, March 17, 2025 from 4 to 7PM.

A memorial service will take place at St. James’ Episcopal Church, Hyde Park, NY, on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at 11AM, officiated by The Rev. Meredith Kadet Sanderson.

Arrangements are under the direction of Burnett & White Funeral Homes, 91 E. Market St., Rhinebeck, NY.
