DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, February 2nd is the Feast of the Presentation\, also known as Candlemas. This feast day comes forty days after Christmas and commemorates the presentation of baby Jesus and the purification of his mother Mary in the Jerusalem temple forty days after his birth. At his presentation\, the baby Jesus was greeted by Simeon (whose prayer upon encountering Jesus became the basis for the canticle nunc dimmittis (see page 120 in your Book of Common Prayer) and by the prophet Anna. Over time\, this celebration came to include the lighting and blessing of candles\, remembering Simeon’s prayer that Jesus is “a light to enlighten the nations.”  \nThis year for Candlemas\, join St. James’ in our Parish Hall for a 5:45 pm soup supper followed by a candlelight procession to the church for a special evening Holy Eucharist! The Eucharist will take place at approximately 6:30 p.m. \nRSVP requested (but not required) so Mtr. Meredith knows how much soup to make. You can RSVP here or to Dyan in the parish office.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrating FDR’s 141st Birthday! \nMother Meredith will offer the opening and closing prayers for this ceremony on Monday\, January 30\, 2023\, at 3:00 p.m. in the Rose Garden at the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site. \nThe guest speaker will be William Harris\, the Director of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum. West Point will provide the honor guard and color guard. \nOrganizations presenting wreaths: The Town of Hyde Park\, American Legion Post #1303\, John Livingston Post 1466\, Jewish War Veterans – Private Herman Siegal Post 623\, The Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce\, The Eleanor Roosevelt Val-Kill Partnership\, The Franklin D. Presidential Library\, The National Park Service. The Wreath on Behalf of the President of the United States will be presented by Brigadier General Shane Reeves\, Dean of the Academic Board\, United States Military Academy at West Point. Manuela Roosevelt will present a wreath on behalf of the Roosevelt family. \nCake will be served at the Henry A. DESCRIPTION:St. James’ Annual Meeting will take place Sunday\, January 29th\, following a single combined service of Holy Eucharist at 9:00 a.m. Both the service and the meeting will be available via Zoom as well as in-person. \n  \nSchedule:  \n9:00 a.m. Polls open; Holy Eucharist (this is the only worship service for Sunday\, 1/29) \n10:00 a.m. All-Church photo (in front of the red doors\, weather permitting!) DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, January 8th\, we will celebrate the Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord with two baptisms at our 10 am service. A festive coffee hour will follow in the parish house. \nAbout the Sunday 10 am service: Join us Sundays at 10:00 a.m. for a celebration of Holy Eucharist (Communion). This service has music (usually organ and choir\, along with special guest musicians) and uses a variety of prayers and language from traditional to inclusive and expansive\, drawing from Rite II of the 1979 Book of Common Prayer\, Enriching Our Worship\, and other sources. Coffee hour in the Parish House usually follows this service.

Evening Prayer with Blessing of Our Homes for The Epiphany. \nJOIN IN ON ZOOM AND BRING SOME CHALK! \nFriday evening is the Epiphany\, when we remember the Wise Ones who were guided by a star to worship the infant Jesus. Because the God who came to us in Jesus is for all people! \nSince the Middle Ages Christians have prayed for God’s blessing on our homes on the Epiphany. We chalk the main entrance of our home with the initials of the three Wise Ones and the numerals of the new year. These initials\, C + M + B (for Caspar\, Melchior\, and Balthasar) also stand for the Latin phrase Christus mansionem bendicat\, “May Christ bless this house.” \nJoin us Friday evening\, January 6th at 6:30 online via Zoom (link below) for a service of Evening Prayer with Blessing of Our Homes. The service will be co-officiated by Fr. Michael of St. Margaret’s and Mtr. Meredith of St. James’ and will include lay readers from both parishes.
