SUMMARY:Bible Study
DESCRIPTION:Our weekly Bible study on Zoom usually focuses on the Gospel for the upcoming Sunday and is led by Mtr. Meredith. We practice a contemplative\, prayerful style of Bible study that focuses on how God is speaking to us through our questions\, responses\, curiosities and doubts as we engage Scripture.  \nThe study is followed by a brief\, optional service of noonday prayer. \nJoin in any Wednesday at 11 am. No previous preparation is required. The Zoom link is distributed via our weekly email newsletter (or contact the parish office). \n

SUMMARY:Centering Prayer (Church)
DESCRIPTION:Centering prayer is a type of meditation with a long history in the Christian tradition\, beginning with the 14th century English monk who wrote The Cloud of Unknowing. But you don’t need to be a monk or a mystic to practice centering prayer and experience its benefits. Lent is the perfect time to enter the quiet of this practice. Beginners welcome. Sessions will last about 30 minutes. Tuesdays at 6 pm in the church (starting 2/20). \nLed by Tessa Kale\, who has taken many retreats on centering prayer with Cynthia Bourgeault and is a participant in her Wisdom School.

SUMMARY:Dinner and Taizé Service for Candlemas (Parish Hall and Church)
DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, February 2nd—the Feast of the Presentation\, aka Candlemas—please join us for a peaceful experience of Taizé prayer at 5:30 p.m. \nWe’ll start with a simple supper in the parish hall. Then the Rev. Masud Ibn Syedullah\, who has led many pilgrimages to the Taizé monastic community in France\, will teach us the Taizé way of prayer—simple\, chanted prayer-songs that anyone can sing. We’ll conclude our evening with a meditative prayer service in our candlelit church.  \nWhat is Taizé ? The ecumenical Taizé monastic community in France has engaged millions of pilgrims—mostly youth and young adults—with a message of peace and a meditative style of sung prayer. Come experience it for yourself! All ages welcome and everyone will be invited to participate (or not) in the singing to the extent they are comfortable.  \nWhat is Candlemas? Friday\, February 2nd is the Feast of the Presentation\, also known as Candlemas. This feast day comes forty days after Christmas and commemorates the presentation of baby Jesus and the purification of his mother Mary in the Jerusalem temple forty days after his birth. At his presentation\, the baby Jesus was greeted by Simeon (whose prayer upon encountering Jesus became the basis for the canticle nunc dimmittis (see page 120 in your Book of Common Prayer) and by the prophet Anna. Over time\, this celebration came to include the lighting and blessing of candles\, remembering Simeon’s prayer that Jesus is “a light to enlighten the nations.”

SUMMARY:Bible Study: The Acts of the Apostles
DESCRIPTION:Every year during the season of Easter\, the book of the Acts of the Apostles shows up in our Sunday readings\, and for good reason! These are the stories of the lives of Jesus’ followers after the resurrection\, and of the spread of the Good News in the earliest days of the Church. \nFor our Easter season Bible study\, we’ll read through the Acts of the Apostles. We will meet on Sundays in the Wilks room in our Parish House\, after the 10 am service—so get a cup of coffee and a snack from coffee hour\, and join in! \nWe’ll try to read about 4 chapters a week. You’re encouraged to read Acts 1-4 before the first session—but do come whether or not you’ve been able to complete the week’s reading! Here’s our schedule: \nWeek 1 | April 16th | Acts 1 – 4 \nWeek 2 | April 23rd | Acts 5 – 8 \nWeek 3 | April 30th | Acts 9 – 12 \nWeek 4 | May 7 | Acts 13 – 16 \nWeek 5 | May 14 | Acts 17 – 20 \nWeek 6 | May 21 | Acts 21 – 24 \nWeek 7 | May 28 | Acts 25 – 28 \n  \nSuggested Resources:  \nThe following are suggestions only and are not required to participate! \nYou may find it useful to own an annotated study bible. The New Oxford Annotated Bible and the Harper Collins Study Bible are good options. \nActs for Everyone\, Part One: Chapters 1-12 and Acts for Everyone\, Part Two: Chapters 13-28 by N. T. Wright (note there are two parts) \nActs by Willie Jennings \nConversations with Scripture: Acts of the Apostles by C. K. Robertson
