Hospitality and Fellowship
We believe the life of a parish is only as good as the quality of its hospitality and fellowship. Making guests feel welcome and at home, inviting newcomers into our lives, and providing members with opportunities to have fun together are ways of helping us grow beyond ourselves.
Each Lent we have parish breakfasts between our 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. services. This helps people who rarely see each other become closer. We also share in the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, a fun evening together sponsored by the Vestry and held to mark the day before Ash Wednesday and Lent.
We have a Men's Breakfast which is held on the third Saturday of the month at 8:00 am at Cranberry's, a local café. A Women's Group has also recently started.
The Hospitality Committee also hosts Newcomers’ receptions twice a year — these are events geared toward letting those new to the parish get to know what is going on at St. James’ as well as get to know “older” members. These are followed on the next Sunday with a small ceremony welcoming newcomers into the fellowship of our congregation.
Our activities have included parish picnics, Christmas parties and gatherings in our homes.
